NGC 3372 LIEDER
“…for an unknown reason they set out for NGC 3372, in search of a new dwelling…. It was a long and arduous journey, but the bright images from the longed-for Dreamworld illuminated the darkness of the almost unbearable void… The closer the destination, the more the picturesque images dissipated… Arriving at the coordinates, there was nothing left of the envisioned beauty. Instead of the hoped-for New World, there was only blackness. Disappointed, despaired and disillusioned, they looked in all other directions. And suddenly, lo and behold, the most wonderful cluster of nebulae was at the place of their origin. The distances made the hardly reachable, distant clusters of worlds shine in all their nonexistent splendor…”
Mi... (meni)... Mi te... Tebe... Nije tebe... Meni nije tebe... Te(be)...
NGC 3372 Lieder is a cycle of sound-poems and sound-passages representing the permanent quest for the seemingly tangible but ultimately undiscoverable. The cycle took shape between 2006 and 2011, each piece composed as a self-contained work within an evolving whole. A motionless singer serves as narrator, with each sound-poem functioning as a psychological flashback. The sound-passages act as conceptual bridges between sonic mental states and fragmentary reminiscences. Modified repetition of previously traversed material symbolises the impossibility of escape from oneself.
The underlying language is an estranged variant of Serbo-Croatian (with the exception of “Al Falaq”), remaining understandable throughout. The adjective “absent” recurs in diverse variants, alongside reflexive pronouns and nouns such as “nightmare,” “night,” and “heart,” and the adverb “always.” Diacritical marks are attached to clarify pronunciation differences significant for interpretation.
